B&B is breakfast only; half board adds dinner; full board adds lunch; all-inclusive covers meals and most drinks. Beach weeks are easiest all-inclusive; city stays are usually B&B.
Kenyan and East African residents get cheaper resident rates with ID — often much lower than the non-resident rate. Always ask, and check both when comparing.
Book 1–3 months ahead for the December–March peak and July–August holidays, when the best resorts sell out and prices peak. Low season (April–May) is cheapest.
North-coast beaches get seagrass in the southeast monsoon (roughly June–September). Resorts rake their frontage; if pristine sand matters, book December–March or choose Diani.
At big resorts, garden-view rooms are cheaper and quieter than sea-view, and you’re seconds from the beach either way. Ask about distance to the pool and restaurants.

Two booking tricks that save real money
First, always ask for the resident rate if you or anyone in your party qualifies — Kenyan and East African residents pay noticeably less at the same hotels, and it’s a legitimate rate the front desk will honour with ID. Even if you’re a non-resident, it’s worth comparing packages: a flight-and-hotel or all-inclusive deal often beats booking the room alone.
Second, don’t pay for a sea view you’ll barely use. At the big north-coast resorts you’re a two-minute walk from the sand whatever room you’re in, and garden-view rooms are cheaper and quieter. Put the difference towards a dhow trip or a couple of nice dinners instead. The beach is the same beach from every balcony.
